there, i said it. i feel so much better now. you see, a long time ago i made a vow to myself that i would never, ever own an ipod. i had seen too many people on street and on the train with those stupid white headphones, lost in their own world of indie pop and hipsterdom. maybe i was jealous or cheap, but i wasn't going to spend $300 just to fit in with every other hipster wearing those damn white headphones.
fast forward to a few weeks ago. my trusty-rusty portable cd player starts to skip and the fourth pair of headphones i've bought in the last 12 months has broken. i'm tired of lugging around extra cds in my bag and looking like an idiot trying to hold on the el railing and change a cd while not being crushed by rush hour traffic.
that's it, i think. i'm done living in the 1990s. it's time to live in the now. i'm buying an ipod.
i did my research: i looked at non-apple mp3 players and compared them to the ipods. in the end though, the nano won my heart with it's tiny cuteness and flexibility (i can store photos on that puppy and show everyone how cute my nieces and nephew are without fishing around for my wallet). so one afternoon i left work a few minutes early, took the bus over to the apple store, and dropped the equivalent of a month's worth of groceries on a 1GB nano. those white headphones are now glued to my head.

there is so much good music out in the world, and sometimes i want to share the soundtrack of my life with everyone. this afternoon i was listening to elvis' greatest hits, and i had to stop myself from standing up in the middle of a crowded train and singing, "a-well-a bless mah soul, a-what's wrong with me, ahm itchin' like a man on a fuzzy tree."
don't you think everyone else on the northbound red line needs a little more elvis in their lives?
