a circus punk marching band?

a few weeks ago a friend invited me to the abbey pub for a night of square dancing. i went, even though i haven't done any type of square dancing since about third grade, and we had a good time twirling each other around and stepping on each others' toes.
but it was the second band that really got my attention. mucca pazza was listed on the bill as the "world's only circus punk marching band."
hm, how very curious, i thought. i will definitely have to check this out. apparently mary houlihan of the sun times had the same idea.
when the time came, a huge group of people marched in through the back door playing high school marching band music and wearing mismatched uniforms. they moved in formation, albiet not the traditional marching band formation, but it worked, considering that they were inside a fairly packed bar.
i really can't explain the music. they're a circus punk marching band, just like they say. so just do me a favor and go to their website and listen to it. or check out my myspace page, because i liked them so much i put a song on my page.
and next time you're in chicago, give me a call and i'll take you out to see them. trust me, it's worth braving the elbowing crowds of hipsters.
