fantastic free fun

there are so many things i love about chicago, but one of my favorites is all of the free stuff, especially in the summer. yesterday was one of those days where spent virtually no money but was busy all day with exciting things.
first i went to the illinois institute of technology for the marimekko exhibit, which was fantastic. whoever would have thought that i would ever be so excited about fabric?
after an iced chai and a good book under the el tracks, my next stop was the chicago cultural center. i spend a lot of time here because they always have some fantastic exhibition showing. i particularly enjoyed the jeanne dunning exhibit, which was disturbing but beautiful at the same time.
my favorite, though, was the tibetian mozart requiem at millenium park. i have never been to a concert at millenium park, mainly because they are all filled with tourists, but this was a great exception. what a fantastic way to mix eastern and western culture, and what a perfect setting. the breeze from the lake came over the park as the sunset reflected off the buildings. it was a perfect way to end my cheap, fun-filled day.
